Growing Together: Celebrating Seattle’s TMF Grantees

News originally published by

Seattle City - Washington

Digital equity in Seattle starts in our neighborhoods. On October 13, 2026, we took time to honor the people who make it happen.

The Community Technology Advisory Board (CTAB) recognized this year’s Technology Matching Fund (TMF) winners at its October meeting. Grantees from the 2025 cycle joined the Community Technology Advisory Board, the Digital Equity Learning Network, and the City’s Digital Equity Team. The room buzzed with energy. People shared stories, reflected on a year of progress, and set their sights on what comes next.

“Our grantees understand their communities in a way no one else can, and their leadership helps residents get connected. Celebrating their success shows what’s possible when there’s trust, partnership, and common purpose.”

Meira Jough, Digital Equity Advisor, Seattle IT

Five Organizations, Citywide Impact

Five organizations took the stage to share their work:

Each group named the real barriers their communities face. Then they showed how they used TMF funding to break those barriers down. Their programs help residents build confidence, find connections, and reach opportunities that once felt out of reach.

In Their Own Words

Three grantees described what this work looks like up close.

“Administering this grant has been deeply rewarding. We’ve seen firsthand how high-touch, in-language support can turn deep technology anxiety into real confidence. Watching our participants, many of whom thought technology was entirely out of reach, learn to type, navigate essential resources, and connect with their community shows just how life-changing true digital equity can be. Through small classes, bilingual instruction, and our intergenerational volunteer model, we’ve been able to build a sustainable network that opens lasting pathways for older adults to gain independence.” — Kate Huynh, National Asian Pacific Center on Aging

“This grant has helped us provide immigrant and refugee youth with greater access to technology and new learning opportunities. With the purchase of laptops, students can build digital skills through hands-on STEAM activities, coding, and robotics. They are learning how to find, create, and share information, while building confidence and exploring future career opportunities. The grant also supported Digital Navigator training for our staff, giving them the skills and knowledge to better guide students in using technology. Together, these efforts help students succeed in school, prepare for future career opportunities, and build a stronger workforce and community in Seattle.” — Shukri Farah, Refugee Women’s Alliance

“MMRTI staff and students were proud to join CTAB members and fellow grantees in celebrating our shared commitment to breaking down digital barriers and advancing digital inclusion. Thank you, Meira, for organizing this wonderful event!” — Assaye Abunie, Multimedia Resources and Training Institute
