Seattle Animal Shelter Launches “Picture Pawfect” Photo Contest to Identify Seattle’s Cutest Pet and Support Local Animals in Need

The Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS) is calling on Seattleites to help answer one of the city’s most pressing and delightful questions: Who is Seattle’s cutest pet?

Every pet owner believes their animal is the cutest, and now SAS is giving the community a chance to prove it through Picture Pawfect, a citywide photo fundraising contest. The contest gives pet owners a chance to showcase their furry friend citywide, while also directly supporting the shelter’s ability to care for thousands of pets annually and provide free and low-cost services that support Seattle’s pet owners.

“We already know Seattle is home to some of the most adorable pets, but we need the public’s help to identify the de facto cutest,” Ashley Harrington, executive director of the Seattle Animal Shelter said. “This competition helps pet owners celebrate and showcase their pets, and at the same time it gives residents the chance to support their hometown, public shelter so that we can continue providing the best care for pets and pet owners possible.”

As the city’s only open-admission shelter, SAS takes in every animal that comes through its doors. In addition to adoption, foster, and volunteer programs, it leads over 6,500 animal welfare cases each year, enforces Seattle’s pet and leash laws, and provides free and low-cost medical services.

By launching the photo contest, SAS joins other shelters around the nation who are finding creative ways to raise funds for programs while also showcasing adorable pets.

Entry to the online contest is simple. Just upload your favorite photo of your furry friend, pay the $5 entry fee, which automatically earns you five votes, and then spread the word to your friends and family and start watching the votes come in.

Members of the public can vote for their favorite pet photos for $1 per vote. The two pets who receive the most votes by Aug. 31 will have their photos featured on the Seattle Animal Shelter’s outreach vehicle for a full year. The colorful vehicle appears across the city at community events, outreach activities, and our free monthly pet vaccine clinics, giving the winning pets citywide bragging rights.

To keep the contest fair and focused on local pets, entries must feature pets who live in Seattle or were adopted from SAS. And while we love all animals, the photo contest is for domestic pets only, such as dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and reptiles.
